War is spreading everywhere and those in power seem violent and heartless. Has God forsaken this world? Have we forsaken God? What is any individual to do? Presented for the first time in the USA, Péguy's play offers a heavenly repast. His airy soufflés are legendary, and his fiery leg of lamb stirs the coolest agnostic to action.

With this American premiere production, Target Margin Theater uncovers another gem. A very young Joan of Arc - before the famous battles, the trial and martyrdom - spins on a hill in the French countryside and searches her soul. Péguy's 1912 classic unrolls in sheets of incantatory poetry, as Joan arrives at her defining realization.

Who was Charles Péguy?

Poet, Atheist, Socialist, Journalist, Catholic, Nationalist, Péguy was a passionate literary figure in the turbulent late-nineteenth and early twentieth century French avante-garde. He was killed in the early days of the first world war.
