The "g" is my initial. ;(
Let me paraphrase: "less money in the drug market = less money for all the things drug companies spend money on - including R&D."

If you saw an opportunity to make a certain profit, would you spend some amount of money to chase the opportunity? Probably. If the opportunity was altered by regulation to reduce the profitability, would you be willing to spend as much to chase it? Obviously not, as the payoff is lower.

Does that make sense to you? If not, I'm afraid I can't help you. The only reason I have carried the conversation this far is that I saw an opportunity to clear up another common mis-interpretation of the facts.
