I enjoy genealogy as a hobby, and it's not at all uncommon to find that a pseudogenealogist has traced one of my ancestors back to nobility, based on a common name. This is a common characteristic of amateur genealogists, which has generated a large industry of people who are eager to sell items with your alleged "family crest."

Funny how there are never any black sheep nor bastards. No, I do not actually have any noble ancestors. Farmers, carpenters, fishermen and shop keepers, with the occasional physician.

Kind of like people who claim to be reincarnated, in their past lives they were all princes, princesses and Pharoahs.

And everybody has at least one Indian princess in their bloodline, as well. ;^)
