You know what the correct general principles are. They are the same ones I believe in, the same ones our mothers taught us when we were 5 years old:

Don't hit.
Clean up your own messes.
Take your turn.
Don't hog the goodies.

But, when it comes time to put the general principle into practice, you find an excuse not to do it. Every time.

You read:

Thou Shalt Not Kill,

And decide He really meant:

Thou Shalt Not Kill,
except if my government tells me to, or
except for illegal combatants who have done really bad things, or
except if my nation is attacked, or
except if my nation is about to be attacked, or
except if my nation might be attacked someday by someone, or
if our vital national interests are involved, or
if it's the Lesser Evil, or
except if I'm frightened of WMD in Iraq or monsters under the bed or ghosts in the closet
except......
except......
except.....

Similarly, your say:

I respect the sovereignty of all foreign nations,
except when.......

I would limit the power of the U.S. President,
except when.......

I believe in balanced budgets and small government,
except when.......

You make so many exceptions, the Good Rules get turned on their head.
