Amazingly, so did I. He never talked about it, even to his wife. He many have late in life with my cousin as he headed off to Nam.
All I know about his experience is that he never watched fireworks after that, and had all his leg hair worn off by his boots.
He too became an alky, and later on, while I was at the VA, we would sometimes bump into each other when his COPD flared up.
His son got totally messed up in Nam, and is still fighting for his bennies with the VA. Has major physical and psychological probs from being dropped on his head from an exploding chopper. His son flew in this war; got messed up when one of his flight got taken out by friendly fire.
