Samsung LCD Business, a division of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., today claimed to have solidified its leadership position in the hotly contested flat panel LCD market.

The company quotes market research firm DisplaySearch as saying it achieved the highest TFT-LCD sales revenue during 2003 and now holds the top spot for TFT-LCDs in Q1 with industry record-setting sales of $2.4 billion. Samsung's Q1 2004 sales exceeded the No. 2 TFT-LCD supplier by more than $500 million, the company said.

"In Q1 2004, Samsung was the top TFT-LCD supplier for notebook panels, monitor panels, total large size volume, total large size revenue and total overall revenue," said Ross Young, DisplaySearch president, in a statement. "DisplaySearch expects Samsung to retain this leadership position throughout 2004."

In mid-April, DisplaySearch reported that Samsung shipped 7.5 million pieces of large size TFT-LCD panels and 8.8 million pieces of small size TFT-LCD panels to achieve its Q1 sales figure. Samsung added in its statement today that demand remains across all of the major computing and consumer electronic segments remains strong.
