In spite of the brilliant work of the King James scholars...the bible doesn't even come within a football field...

I'm not wild about Oscar.

I think Wilde certainly did have his moments ....is it because of his sexual orientation and his "degenerate" behavior that repels you? Or that he questioned the certainty of faith and often had good reason to do so?
So much of the Bible is written of mass murder and describes tribal genocidal maniacs , and could hardly believe that one Homosexual critic should be worriesome to you.

But perhaps quotes like this might :

" The things one feels absolutely certain about are never true. That is the fatality of faith and the lesson of romance "

~Oscar Wilde

Always found his humor somewhat quixotic and always thought provoking for his time ...I'll let God be the judge for the rest ...he had somewhat of an outsiders advantage to look upon things that were so absurdly awry & staid . There are other instances of highly quixotic persecuted figures in history , that also profaned the accepted unbreakable laws of the chosen tribe, the insanely cruel punishments & challenged the righteousness of the High Priests & the Church's intractablility ...

Can you name just one ?

;-)

PS: I always loved Wilde's little quip of :
America is the only nation that went from barbarism to degeneracy , without a civilization in between .

Certainly the bulk of the world might be inclined to be feeling that about us right now.
