Isn't it likely that Canadian air controllers (from Toronto, Montreal,...) eavesdropped all the conversations between US controllers and the hijacked airplanes? After all, those were CIVILIAN radio messages --hence not scrambled.

It's also likely that CB/radio amateurs picked up the conversations... it happens worldwide... in the US alone, there're probably hundreds of retired radio amateurs who spend all the day listening to air traffic....
