I don't know whether it's true or false but I think you go a bit overboard in the "it's a lie," category.

Jordan owes its existence largely by keeping under the radar. They are close enough to the US to continue to get our support and protection. They have nothing to gain by lying. They certainly are not going to gain favor in the Arab world.

I suspect there is much truth there. However, I'm open enough and that's why I asked the question in my prior post, which question you quoted.

There is a logic that Al Queda would try to do a large attack in Jordan, given that they are so close to the US.

I bet more will develop on this.

EDIT - oh and the nation that lied about WMD was Saddam's Iraq. A great bluffer got called in the ultimate poker game. The US was stupid, negligent and incompetent but the world believed there was WMD in Saddam's joint.
