The way I gauge whether a protest in DC was a success is whether there is a photo in the Washington Post taken from high above that shows the Mall completely filled with people. That's a successful march.

Last week's abortion rally was successful by that standard. None of the recent anti-war rallies came close, the photos in the Post were taken from street level or building level, not of the Mall.
