Its not the American justice system with all the checks and balances and bureaucracies in place. Horrendous things still happen in modern countries like Saudi, Jordan, Morrocco and Egypt. But more likely to the fundamentalist Muslims than Americans. In fact, in most of these cases the rulers are looking for excuses to incarcerate radicals and would happily use an American with a complaint as an excuse. I have been saying for a couple of years that many countries in the ME are way over due for revolutions. The rulers know this since most of them came to power via some sort of revolt or coup.
