The poor in this country get very little money from the federal government. That myth is very out-dated that we spend too much on the poor. We spend more on helping Iraqi people in need than we do our own.

A homeless person for instance can get zero help from the government unless he is a veteran or disabled worker. And private charities have been hit hard by the Bush tax cuts for the rich which make giving less attractive from a write-off point of view.

It was Clinton who got rid of "welfare as we know it" remember? It was Reagan who emptied out the mental hospitals to create the homeless problem to begin with.
