Sounds like double or triple cremes, like brie or St. Andre, that had turned. Really, they should be very mild, but cheese shops will keep them out as long as some sucker will buy them. They should not smell like that, in my opinion, if they are sound.

Stilton can be a bit too salty, but it is good with port and sherry.

To tell the truth, I would ordinarily prefer good old feta to chevre, but sometimes I like the creamier texture......
