The fact that a majority comes to Rummy's defense is not key--its attracting the independents to Bush who blame Rummy for the screw up(s) in the last year. REmember the Florida vote last year? IF we can get a couple of soccer moms and a few blue collar guys more this time around, it may be critical to Bush reelection. ITs probably too late to fire Rumsfeld now so now i will switch from that mode of argument to DOD and SD fessing up to the new reality in iraq and explaining to americans how we aim to still win. The new general in charge of the prisons in this mornings press conference was a good first step. mike
