The American bombers in Dresden went during the day and did not engage in the fire-bombing, it was a different philosophy. My recollection is that our planes had better bomb sights so could fly higher to evade the Luftwaffe and were able to hit targets more accurately so no reason for indiscriminate bombing.

The Brits found out that firebombing did not demoralize the Germans any more than the Blitz demoralized the Brits. Indiscriminate destruction of civilian targets just makes people mad. Although I think Sherman's March to the Sea worked in the Civil War. But Southerners are still angry about that, almost 150 years later.
