Those pictures destroyed two growing myths that needed destroying. One myth was that Americans "don't do things like that, and certainly not at the behest of those we put in charge." The second was that we can "trust" the police power of the government and need not concern ourselves with such liberal concepts as legal protections for the "rights" of the "guilty."

Then why are we trying them? If we're so bad, as Americans, then why are we so outraged by what they did?

After all, these were most likely Baathists and Islamists... Why should we care how they were treated since they would have treated our people even worse were the table turned (have you forgotten those 4 contractors burned and dragged through the streets of Fallujah?)..

If we needed to be reminded that we're not perfect, all we have to do is watch TV every night and hear about the murders, drug deals, prostitution, child abuse, and rape that take place every day in this society (just as they occur around the world)..

But the difference is that, once discovered, we generally try and convict these criminals..

And that's the difference between our society and these non-democratic regimes we're fighting against...

Humanity is NEVER perfect CD.. You, of all people should know that.. But our system of government is the closest thing to perfection that currently exists on this planet...

But then again, if you're so ashamed of our system, you have plenty of canyons you can dwell in around the world where you can seek your "Nirvana"..
