"it is prewar coverage that counts the most."

If only people would get it through their heads that is it NOT unpatriotic to question, and to question roughly, the reasons for taking this great country to war, we would live in a better country, and we would make better decisions. IF we are ever attacked by a foreign power (an identifiable foreign power, attached to a country) on our shores, the decision is easy- fight back and fight back hard for our way of life. But when we are fighting a metaphoric attack on our way of life, or fighting an enemy that is not bound to a country, and trying to find a country to invade so we can look busy, that's a problem- especially when misstatements cover the already inexact nature of the calculation. The layers of uncertainty that got piled one on top of the other in this war are fascinating to behold- and I do hope we learn some lessons from what has happened. I'm not sanguine that we will learn lessons from this war, since some parts of our society seem to have learned little from Korea and Vietnam, but I can still hope.
