That is so appropriate for Mummy's Special Day! I suppose it could be argued that these tomb scavengers were somewhat like earthworms--taking the raw material through their digestive tracks and excreting it as life-giving fertilizer. It is the only time when humanity truly given finds equality--not only with one another but with all of Nature.

EATING MUMMY

Oh that is an appetizing thought ...just when you think history can't get much wierder , lo and behold.<G>

There is a tradition dating back to at least 1000 A.D. in which Arabs and later Europeans engaged in the practice of "eating mummy." ....
Egyptian mummies were so sought after that the chaplain to Queen Catherine Medici of France made a special trip to Egypt in 1549 and, together with some physicians from Italy, broke into a number of tombs around Sakkara in a quest for mummies to use in various medicines. Catherine's father-in-law, King Francis I of France, also carried ground-up mummy in a pouch around his waist at all times in case of an emergency.

....after all the tombs had been raided and stripped of the gold & artifacts , seems that some were just so bent to create even more "added" value and give rise to a new market with the worthless remains of the long dead human corpses and this unbelievabe wierd belief in the panacea of cannabalising ancient corpses. Isn't that just like human nature and trying to survive ? If they could have sold the sand in those tombs too , they would have ! Does show you the level and need for scientific reform of those times, and the desperate measures driven by fear of death & disease ..and eventual demise of aging. Its no wonder that the age of reason was just right around the corner.

Unfortunately there is always a surplus of human remains to be mummified & eaten ...not so with the snow tigers, elephants , gorillas and leopards.
