Phil, as far as I know, the problem is at SI only. That's why this thing is so strange.

It was suggested that the fault could possibly lie with one of the link stations en route but I can "ping" them all with any size packets and no losses.

I have attempted to use MyIE2 which is another browser and it makes no difference. I have also used another computer, which unfortunately uses Win 95 so I can't use the ADSL, and it uploads perfectly on the dial-up.

I have left it with the ISP. If they suggest I should get another modem I will but I'm not going to spend money if I don't have to.
