also note that this year's major journalism scandals were NOT at Fox News, but at the New York Times and USA Today.

Anyone who recognizes the behavior of the guards in Iraq as an exception to the rule can also recognize that the journalists in question also are.

This I think is the more important issue. And I don't think the answer is getting more diversity in the establishment newsrooms or for them to confess their sins. I think the answer is for journalists of whatever stripe to cut the crap and stick to the news. Disinterested reporting aka professionalism is what we need. Reserve the spin for the opinion section.
