I agree with you that disobeying orders is not easy. But is also not impossible. And it is also a duty.

I can understand that some of the soldiers in the prison choose the easy option and 'joined the group'. But don't whine when it leads to charges when the whole thing gets investigated. Be a man, stand for what you have done and face the facts.

Don't come up with arguments that you didn't know it was wrong to let prisoners masturbate in front of cameras, that killing prisoners is wrong, that videotaping rape of young Iraqi prisoners is wrong and sofort.

You can even expect a random visitor at a Jerry Springer-audience to know that this is wrong.

I said it before, someone is responble for his own deeds. We all make mistakes, no problem. Just face the consequences when it happens, and don't whine or fingerpoint at others.

Regards,

Paul

<<When I was in the US Army in 1970, I too was told that I must not obey an illegal order. However, if I did disobey, I can expect to be thrown in the stockade (prison), and I better hope that a courts martial would agree with me. Which is nearly impossible. >>

I disobeyed direct illegal orders twice in 1970. Both times the officer wanted to give me an article 15, fine and extra duty. Both times I told him no, lets go to courts martial and the matters were dropped. Later my testimony helped get him booted from the army.
