Excuse my opacity. This,

Every since 9/11, I have thought that our policy should be to make our best effort to wipe out Al-Queda, then quietly comply with its demands, i.e., get out of Saudia Arabia and become an honest broker to the Israel/Palestinian fight

certainly sounded like you thought becoming an honest broker in the Israel/Pal fight was one of Al Qaeda's demands. Perhaps you should rephrase?

The trouble with 'honest brokerage' is that it was always a tar baby that the Arab regimes wanted to use to paralyze the US totally. Demand honest brokerage, while paying Palestinian terrorists to keep fighting and on no account ever settle. When there is not deal in sight, the Arab regimes talk big about a deal being top priority, nothing else can be done without it. Whenever a deal has been in the offing, not only could Arafat not sign it, but all Arab pressure suddenly becomes anti-deal. In the year 2000, Egypt and Saudi Arabia were AWOL on deal-making. Because boy, do the Arab regimes need the 'plight of the Palestinians' as a safety valve and distraction for their own populations.
