I wouldn't call it a "panic for protection". It's kinda like the old TV ad. You can pay me now, or you can pay me a lot more later. A knowledgeable user can go without any kind of virus protection and never get hit. To simplify it, never download anything, never open an attachment, read only text email and you'll probably be ok. Why would someone that knows the dangers out there leave his unlocked car on the street with the keys in the ignition? This is a short version. Got to head to work.
