This is now more than a war on terror, its a fight for economic survival.

Big companies plan 5 , 10, or 20 years in advance. And the big story is a coming-soon-near-you oil shortage.

Could be called an 'imminent' threat (g)

With terrorists trying to destroy Saudi oil fields or production.

All wars are a mess, mistakes will be made on both sides.

Saddam made a mistake, and thought he could buy protection.

Nadine noted how sadly the pre-war projections were in error.

GWB did not start these wars. Saddam started one in 1991 by invading Kuwait and threatening SA. And he never gave up in trying to gain more armament and power.

OBL and Al Queda types started the other war by destroying US property and lives and continues to do that.

Arguments have been presented that WW1 or WW2 could have been prevented by "proper" pre-emptive political action or military action. But history leaves only one trail, and an alternate course is pure speculation.

And yet the same people will condemn our so-called pre-emptive action in Iraq. Which occurred after 12 years years of pre-emptive political (UN) discussions which went nowhere.

Isn’t it amazing that this seemingly clear root cause of the middle east and probably the whole world problems is absent from 99% of these discussion forums?

This is about as laughable as claiming that everything we do in the USA should be conditioned on what goes on in Cuba, or that China should hold up all progress in that enormous and economically advancing country because of Taiwan.

The Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a piss-shit territorial dispute that concerns nobody else in the world but Israelis and Palestinians. Not Europeans, not Saudis (who have not let any Palestinian expatriates in as far as I know), not anybody who is not from the immediate region itself. The only reason the conflict has gone on as long as it has is because of outside meddling by people who have no business sticking their noses in the affair, and the UN making a full employment issue of it.

Anyone who believes that if only Jews would be pushed to the sea and then all would be well in Arab countries is hallucinating.

The "root causes" of our problems with Arab countries today is our (the US's) reliance on oil that by an accident of geological history is largely found in Saudi Arabia and the surrounding countries. Not the existence of Israel or Jews in the region.
