Btw, not being familiar with the conditions during the '60s related to draftees, were they treated differently than volunteers?

The primary difference was draftees served 2 years active and four years in the reserves regardless of service. They also had no choice of job training or assignment.
Army enlistees served three years active and three years reserve.
USAF served 4 and 2.
USMC (I think) was 3 and 3.
And I believe the Navy was 4 and 2.

Someone may correct one or two of these numbers.

Veterans' Benefits are the same for all.
