We're in a fight for our own survival in Iraq? Oh, come on, that's an absurd argument. I mean, it's a joke.

Bush was able to get the approval of the American people for war in Iraq because of "slam dunk" intelligence that Saddam had stockpiled WMD and could not be trusted not to use them.

I don't think 60% of the American people believe in Iraqi WMD anymore, nor that Saddam was behind 9/11.

The war is over. There's no enemy left to fight with carriers and Humvees and jets.

Congress isn't going to approve invading Syria or Iran based on our new improved "slam dunk" intelligence that this time, the WMD are there. Not in an election year, for sure.

Not that Al Qaeda is going away, but the way to fight Al Qaeda will be doing it the European way, with cops and bankers and cryptologists, cooperating with Spain and France and Germany and Turkey.

No more buckles to swash. The last hurrah. Done.

Maybe China will get stroppy, but I doubt it.

Thanks, Lindy. The American Thinker is right-on. Thank God that some people out there still see the truth and know how to express it, even in the midst of a pseudo-liberal perfect storm. So, it is important that we not let the sand so gleefully tossed about by Teddy Kennedy of Kennebunkport fame get in our eyes. We can still see his self-righteous and self-serving castigations for what they really are: more of his "lets elect Kerry crap".

And that simple but profoundly courageous man from Crawford, Texas is used to both sand and crap. He knows where real America stands and he stands with them.

A vast gulf separates the sensibility of the Bush-haters from the mainstream -- at least 60% of the American public.

Bias alert. Bias alert.

"that they are only showing that they hate America"

Sorry, the real hate crime here is the abandonment of American values by right wing apologists. For that column is more of the same old neo-con, head in the sand, denial of responsibility…and even more of the same substitution of naked jingoism for real patriotic indignation. Even when this crap whips the partisans into frenzy, you shouldn't expect the triumph of marketing over common sense, at least not this time.

Rummy WILL go. Don't worry: no spinal fluid will be expended by a neo-con anywhere. It's just a matter of waiting for the final results from the focus groups. After all the strident attempts to blame Kerry, Clinton, Gore, Kennedy, the press, the fifth column, the traitorous liberals, the press again, Kerry's wife...the real shock and awe at how the DOD bungled the occupation and irrevocably smudged America's image will override every half hearted justification for war crimes. The people of this country will still expect heads to roll. Sad but true...the only reason Rummy is still even hanging by a thread is that it is an election year. For one singular shining moment in the life and times of the current administration, someone will finally be accountable for failure.

Of course, it follows that any vestige of GWB's integrity is just as gossamer thin. Here Rove has a plan! But this fall, if we can somehow overcame the $200 million now slouching towards the most relentless smear campaign in the history of our republic, we will end the national nightmare that began when Bush first invoked God's name as pretext to invade Iraq.
