Finding a higher caliber candidate ... Rudy Giuliani.

I don't think Rudi would survive the Media's "Presidental vetting."

Finding a higher caliber candidate with broader national appeal than Bush (such as Rudy Giuliani).

Rudy was transformed by Sept 11th from an old goat (involved in a messy divorce + public love affair) into a hero. But he does have unfortunate habits like being a limelight hog - he shoved Bratton, the very successful police commissioner, out of New York beause Bratton was getting too much attention. Rudy's no panacea and would do better in a Senate run, imo.

Buch actually does have wide appeal, certainly in the red states.
