Thecow,

Thanks, as well, for pointing me to the ZA forum. I have bookmarked it in a brand new "Computer Security" folder.

In about two weeks I will need to decide whether to let my ZoneAlarm Pro free trial lapse or buy it. I assume from your familiarity with this program and knowledgability about security issues in general, that you are substantially more familiar with this program than I am. It is extremely difficult for me to determine how well the program works or whether I really need it. I tend to be rather cautious in general, and never, for example, open attachments in unsolicited e-mail from unknown senders, even though I routinely check all e-mail attachments for viruses. What I really hate are black box programs which don't give me the information I need to use them effectively. These are the programs I typically end up uninstalling.

Do you have any opinion on ZoneAlarm Pro or other products in its category as to value or effectiveness? Are the freebies, such as the predecessor to ZA Pro, "good enough" for most people. If not, which product(s) would you suggest?

TIA,
Sam
