You have to always remember that Microsoft NEVER notifies you of an update via e-mail. It's some low life trying to infect your computer.

I received an "Update alert" from Microsoft, I downloaded the suggested needed updates...Now I have a dogs head, and a link with casino sites.

What did your head look like before you downloaded the updates? Maybe you're being too hard on yourself.

Microsft did nothing. The popup wasn't from them. You got hijacked. Here are removal instructions. You can also download SpyBot Search and Destroy and it will probably remove it.
