Take two examples, Ryland and Centex. Both have reduced their production in low land cost regions like Texas and have dramatically stepped up land purchases in high cost areas like California. I don't expect either company to survive when the downturn arrives.

I don't know what's happening at every major home builder, but I doubt it varies much. The people in this industry are like lemmings. Everyone talks and everyone follows each other's lead. The "bet your company" speculations are finally taking place after eight years of caution.
