I have not heard one word of support, here in Spain, for Bush policies. I had dinner with my daughter's host family last evening. I have talked with a few cabbies, a few people in the hotels, and few half drunk Irish. Same response everywhere. In regard to the latest episode it is mostly coverage of the US, but there is also a fair amount re England. People in Spain, so I was told, liked Clinton because he listened to Europe's point of view. With Bush they say the door closed. He has his view of things and that is the way it is. Reality or not - I dunno enough to say. I lived in Europe during most of the 90's. Support for US Mideast policy in Europe is imo very low. There is much more sympathy for Palestinian issues in Europe, than in the US. Interestingly enough I was listening to an EU rep last evening, on TV, talking about a hopeful more open approach between the US and the EU. The idea was to make the US and EU function more like the European countries now function within the EU, as compared to how they did before the EU. Well, the airlines companies are licking their chops over that one, but I suspect it will be some years before it happens. Guess that is about enough on all that. First time to Spain for me ... more than mildly impressed. It is much more modern and robust than I had imagined, in every way I can think. For some reason I had always imagined Spain to be somewhat or more than somewhat behind. Some nice looking ladies here too. One jumped in front of me to get a cab the other day. I just smiled at her.
