The best outcome would be the budget surplus of FY 2000 coupled with the respect and affection we had internationally on 9/12. Neither one seems terribly likely. I'm not sure Kerry can do it. I know Nader can't; he would be totally ineffective without a congressional base. He would probably be impeached within 2 years because of inability to do the job. Most of his proposals won't get to the floor. Most of his vetoes would be over-ridden by D/R coalitions. However, nothing will happen with Shrub in the WH. How we handle ours elves now will help how the rest of the world views us, and I think THAT is important. We once thought our elves the great shining light of humanity. We may have even been right. No more; we are the commies/nazis that the world feared for the last 70 years. The rest of the world sees us the way we saw Russia in the 50's. If we are to begin to change world opinion, we are going to have to deal with this whole mess in a way that demonstrates this is a temporary loss of sanity on our part. If we hold these people accountable, maybe we can convince the world we won't ever be bad again. Ha. Anyway, the abuse scandal is just a small part of the picture. This was an illegal war, not authorized by either the US or UN. Shrub should have gone back to both to get a formal declaration of war. Illegal, because the Constitution requires we honor all treaties to which we are signatories. The UN Charter prohibits pre-emptive war, except, blah blah. Shrub tried to spin the blah blah, but he had no authorization, nor were we in immediate danger (ie Israel in June '67). Illegal. Let the World Court put these guys on trial. Prove we are part of the community of nations, not above them. WR Maybe 'll find time to get to the bankrupt post, anon.
