The legal specifics are one thing (and the smallest part of the matter).

The larger issue is the political and strategic damage done to America's reputation in the rest of the world (and, most especially: in Iraq).

IMO, this is the final straw that transforms Iraq into a no-win scenario for us. No matter how much money or blood we pour down that rat hole, we are likely to emerge worse off.

I think it is Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina you are referring to. I will be happy for the perpetrators to be punished and for the US to be able to get past this. For once we can be thankful that there will be no bleeding heart liberals calling for mercy for the individuals directly involved since they hate the military anyway.
