Sidney, Now I can see that our opinions are more similar than at first perceived.

I, too, am against the constant growth, and grasp, of the federal government, but can not blame any Republican administration for it any more than any Democratic one. Actually, I would like to consider myself to be an independent voter, but the candidates of the demo party have given me little choice for most of my adult life.

There is still a risk of terrorism looming over America, and we must take some precautions to try to catch any terrorist acts before they happen. I, really, don't know if the Patriot Act is the right way to go, but has anyone come up with a better idea to seal our borders from infiltration? So far, I have not seen one.

I don't think that I said that the Republican party was any less inclined to expand the federal stranglehold on citizens, and know that the two major parties are in sync on that subject. The problem is that I can't NOT vote. None of the fringe parties have a snow ball's chance in hell to win an election, so where does that leave the general population?

If Homeland Security falls into the wrong hands, I agree that it will be a disaster to what few freedoms we have left. As far as personal freedoms are concerned, both party's are, at least, equally to blame. In my lifetime, the Democrats have saddled us with income taxes, social security, along with the number of the beast, so to say, etc. Technology of today, can make that identification, and mass of personal information, even worse. It is the demo's that want to take guns away from law abiding citizens. That is the first item on the agenda of any socialistic movement because, they fear retaliation from citizens who realize they are being shafted, and devoid of personal rights.

OK, so we both believe in personal freedom, as long as it does no harm to society, but where do we go from there?? What are our choices?? All I can see is bad, or worse, so support the bad. A hopeless situation?? Maybe, but what other option is on the table?

Yes, we wish that the Higher Power would step in and clean up this mess, but He has given us free will, and has let us muck it up, so it appears that it is up to us to sink, or swim at this point.
