Iraq is starting to remind me of another nation-state that was cobbled together from disparate ethnic groups, then gained some stability under the cruel and forceful rule of a strongman dictator. Yugoslavia under Josip Tito. It disintegrated into massacres, wars, lynchings and village burnings shortly after 1990, and probably will not be a stable, productive member of the European community for decades. Iraq appears to me to have some major similarities.
I just keep thinking what the US could have accomplished had we stayed focused on el Queda et al.
