Maybe Kennedy will want to go talk to them. I worry that it will take a larger blood letting to wake up most Americans to the danger.

It takes very special humans to deliberately spill another's blood on their own hands while killing. They are not deterred by any ordinary means. They require very special treatment.

What is especially disturbing is the videotaping. It's enough that they methodically cut another man's throat until the head seperates. But they videotape it, like a home movie. The Chechnyans dub music to it, and distribute the bloody carnage as patriotic. It takes a real animal to do that.

UW,
I had numerous posts written to me last night that i have not read. I am too tired and too depressed to respond to both attacks from the left and the right. You have shown yourself to be a thinking man, Mike. We have come to wide agreement from greatly different backgrounds.
I will do almost anything to win the WOT. I do believe that our very existence is at stake here. And i personally will do anything i can to make this so.
Some in this administration and our military have shown great hubris here. They have put themselves and their careers above the interests of the US. And the chief interest is to stop Kerry, Jacques and Kofi from remaking amercian policy. I dont care who gets fired or who quits or how principles of loyalty are compromised to achieve this goal. Folks have written to me that Rummy is the only man for the job or the best man etc etc. This is just plain stupid talk to think that there are no other men who can run our fp efforts other than Rummy, Wolfy, Cheney, and the generals now in place. But then moenmac tells me, I am giving teddy kennedy a victory. Again that is nonsense. How is it a victory to hire the best available folks to replace folks who have failed in the publics eye. Particularly after the slaughter of Nick Berg, we need folks running the show who have the confidence of the public. You cant tell me that all potential candidates are against Bush policy, can you.
There is no big deal to holding people accountable. If we can hold that 90lb pregnant soldier accountable for her acts, we certainly can hire a new COO. The polls are very deceptive now and cons are complacent because Kerry cant seem to gain ground in bushes weakest moments. But make no mistake that come the post labor day stretch run, the american people will not be voting for one or the other, they will be preparing for a referendum on the bush presidency. And the fact that the economy is good again or that we won in AFganistan, will be far overshadowed by what may still be happening in iraq. One way bush can overcome the perception of a poor job in Iraq is to take decisive action now. Bush needs to prove to the country that he, not karl rove; that he, not dick cheney; and that he alone makes decisions, especially those to correct errors in policy. Then he has a chance to win on his own and not side with some of the smug cons on this thread who listen to their low intel heroes--hannity, limbaugh et al and are sure bush will win because kerry cant. Back in 1992, Clinton at about this point was running third and then this same group of folks sat on their hands for Bush 41 because of the tax hike. And voila, we got the clintons. Mike

Unfortunately, you are correct.

The American public has the attention span of a flea with ADD. While we haven't forgotten about 9/11, we turn our attention to people like Clarke, who is selling a book, and flail ourselves because of Abu Ghraib.

Self-examination is terrific--the radical Muslims need to do a lot more of it--but it is a handicap when done obsessively, as we seem to do whenever we do not live up to our values.
