How about Afghanistan? I am still angry about how we screwed that up (not enough troops, using mercenaries at Tora Bora, no follow through on post-war Afghanistan, etc.).

Before we invaded Iraq, Iran was allowing us overflight for SAR and Syria was providing us with intelligence. Not anymore. Also, we were making progress on getting Pakistan to help more on their side of the border (Why didn't we send enough troops to seal the border right away? Another blunder ...) We need to refocus on Afghanistan (it is falling back to the war lords and the Taliban), and pursue al qaeda.

But this is just a small part. We need a comprehensive plan on the entire Middle East (I've posted my thoughts before).

As an example, we need to address the issues concerning Saudi Arabia. I've been there twice, and the people love Americans, but hate American policy. They think that we prop up the Saud family and are stealing their oil. I posted some brief thoughts (from an oil / economic perspective) here:

Defeating terrorism takes a comprehensive plan and there is not enough space on SI.
