BubbaFred,

Re: Whatever magic potions used, with help from the mainstream news media, have lasting impact.

Maybe its the hydrogenated saturated frankenfoods Americans are forced to eat. Or maybe it's some sinister additive that doesn't get on the food labels at.

Or maybe it is the huge dosages of anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs that Americans self medicate with.

I think of Huxley and his term "Soma" which he introduced in his novel "Brave New World" huxley.net

We are living in a land of zombies.

This morning, I went to my local National Guard Armory and spoke to the Commanding Officer about what is coming up with the Oregon National Guard. Approximately 500 Oregonians are heading for Iraq and Afghanistan in the next few months. They've already been told to pack their bags.

While in conversation witht the C.O. about Abu Ghraib, a lower ranking staffer came up and harassed me for expressing skepticism about our purposes and our honor in Iraq. I directly asked him about the failure to produce WMDs. Shockingly to me, he said this didn't matter and then he had the damned nerve to question my patriotism! At this point, I raised my voice, incredulous as I was that an office in the Guard could be so blindly obedient to a failed leader like George Bush. Characteristically, the Guard closed ranks and closed their minds. They weren't interested in listening to anything further I had to say about honor, integrity, honesty or decency.

<I know people can be blinded by spurts of high emotional irrationality, but time usually brings back rationality.>

Such as the irrationality of the megalomaniac Chinese who want to murder Taiwanese if they don't kneel, genuflect and pay tribute to the alpha male monkeys running China.

Time, or a Tomahawk in the face, might bring them back to rationality.

It's surprising that megalomaniacs don't recognize the atavistic primal part of their brain contaminating their thinking and take up something harmless to sublimate the dominance drive, such as golf, or watching Big Time Wrestling.
