I'm not interested in getting into a discussion about the definition of the word "ethnicity". Heck, I couldn't really define my own "ethnicity" as anything other than just plain old "American".

But I guess I'll say something general since you asked. Obviously people are generally the same ethnicity as their parents. OTOH, ethnicity is clearly not a "racial" or bloodline thing. People of different ethnic groups may be very similar biologically, may have common ancestors somewhere back in the past.
