Thus far, however, a minor congestive support at 1888/1886 has stymied the slide but sustained gains back through the 1900/1902 and 1907/1909 are needed to begin to improve the very short term pattern. The low for the week comes into play at 1880 with a breach here initially exposing the gap from last Oct between 1873 and 1866.

9:27AM ASML cut to Neutral at UBS in Europe 15.84: UBS in Europe downgrades ASML Holding to Neutral from Buy as Q1 results confirm that this year will see strength in SPE spending, as the order backlog rose to 163 units from 124. Tight semiconductor capacity utilization rates and strong demand for wireless and digital consumer products lead the firm to increase its 2004 global litho tools estimate to 530 units from 435, and for ASML to 251 from 227 units. Firm notes there has been a close historical correlation between the stock and year-on-year growth in backlogs. The firm forecasts that growth in ASML's order backlog will peak in Q2.

7:32AM Qualcomm boosts Q3 forecast (QCOM) 64.72: Company issues upside guidance for Q3 (Jun), company sees EPS of $0.51-0.53, excluding co's QSI segment, vs Reuters consensus of $0.50. For Y04, company sees EPS of $2.00-2.05, consensus $2.00. Improved outlook is due to greater than expected WCDMA royalties, faster migration to 6000 series MSMs and stronger orders for CSM products.

6:50AM Motorola introduces new products (MOT) 18.70: Co extends its infrastructure product portfolio with the introduction of four new products for Hybrid Fiber Coaxial networks. These products form an essential foundation for broadband operators to reliably deploy advanced services -- enabling them to deliver Motorola's "connected home" experience to subscribers.... Co also announces that it and Padcom, a provider of connectivity software for mobile workers, will be using Padcom's TotalRoam solution to integrate Motorola's advanced private voice and data networks with public wide area and local area wireless networks.

6:38AM Electro Scientific reaches partial settlement on GSLI patent suit (ESIO) 20.92: The parties enter a stipulated dismissal without prejudice of two of GSI Lumonics' (GSLI 12.44) asserted patents. A third asserted patent remains in the case. ESIO says it intends to continue to defend the case vigorously.

6:24AM Microsoft and SAP announce deeper integraton of products (SAP) 37.70: Microsoft (MSFT 25.94) and SAP (SAP) announce plans to work closer together to improve products and simplify access over the Internet. The two cos detailed a road map for deeper integration between Microsoft .NET and SAP NetWeaver, the cos' respective strategic platform initiatives, allowing customers to get more out of business-critical SAP applications and technologies running in collaboration with Microsoft .NET.
