Who was talking about the Arab media?

I thought that we see them as evil barbarians? And yet we're surprised when their news isn't "fair and balanced" like ours? :)

The myth that I was referring to was this idea of the "liberal media" in this country, trashing our troops and playing to the enemy. It is hogwash.

The prison story is more enduring because it is in contrast to a perception that we like to perpetuate... That we are good, and "they" are evil. As though we are not as susceptible to the failures of human nature as anyone.

The fact that Al Queda terrorists behead someone is awful, but it's not particularly a surprise. It fits very well with our perception of Islamic terrorists. The fact that many of our soldiers were systematically torturing "detainees" in an Iraqi prison notorious for torture is a surprise (at least to many), and goes against our supposed nature. Thus, it's a more interesting and enduring story.
