It would seem, from the symmetry in case 1, the objective of the program trading systems are to thrust the market to 11,500 as quickly as possible, flush out additional loose nickels from the markets, then reposition the Dow around 14,000 in and around November 2004. On a metaphysical basis, this would provide the Bush administration with the physical evidence that the economy and markets are strong and provide the leverage to win an election.
