We are not going to war in the name of "our God"

You sure about this? Bush thinks God wanted him to be President, and he seems to see divine justification for most of his actions...

The rest of your argument is at best very arguable and at worst ridiculous.

We are not going to war in the name of "our God", we are going to war in the name of defense. We are not going to war to redeem our honor, but in order to destroy the center of terrorist and rogue state activities that threaten us, and have been demonstrated to have become emboldened and more efficacious due to the attacks of 9/11.

The Jesus Factor
May 20
As an evangelical Christian, President Bush has something in common with the 46 percent of Americans who describe themselves as being "born again" or having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Often has the president recounted praying about major decisions facing the nation ã but what do we actually know about the rudiments of George Bush's faith? To what extent do the president's spiritual beliefs impact or influence his political decision-making? And how closely do Bush's religious views mirror those of the country's burgeoning - and politically influential - evangelical movement? This is a rebroadcast of this recent and much discussed report. (But why wait for the rebroadcast? View it online on its web site.)

Well if that's it I guess we can leave, right?

Or do you mean defense in the sense of "the best defense is a good offense?" If so then we better "ask Alice, I think she'll know." Or maybe we should check in with the doormouse?

Wait a minute, I'm starting to get it; we HAD to invade and occupy Iraq to save the children dying due to the diversion of oil- for- food/medicine money, it was the most humane thing to do... So we had to go to war to save the children that the embargo that we'd insisted on was killing? Why don't they stop making us kill them?Sweeeet. We are very clever.

Or how about your rationale that we had to invade because Iraq was a threat? But now we have to "stay the course" at the cost of billions and too many American soldier's lives because if we left "Iraq would be a threat?"

But you've hit the mark when you say We are not deliberately targeting civilians. It's so reassuring to know that civilian deaths are simply something that inevitably happens when we invade and occupy another nation. It would be so much worse for the dead civilians and their families if they thought we WANTED to kill them as opposed to just taking some other action KNOWING that we'd kill them.

Hey, war is war, dead is dead, and stupid is stupid. If you go to war; go to war as a LAST RESORT. That means try everything else first and then try it again. That means be sure that your goals are achievable. That means be realistic about the costs. That means be fair in your assessments of the long term costs.

It's like a wife-beating husband. He'll always have some "reason" why it's best for her to be disciplined but no matter what the reason, she's still the one getting beaten. The human mind can rationalize just about anything if it has enough "WANT" in it.
