How profitable the US companies in China?

from the 2003 White Paper on American Business in China (by The American Chamber of Commerce in China and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shang- hai).

"Our member companies (254 altogether) continue to report very strong sales and financial performance from their China operations. Four of every five respondents reported growth in China-based revenue from 2001 to 2002, and nearly half (44 percent) indicated that their revenue "increased substantially?last year. One in 10 companies are "very profitable" and another 65 percent are "profitable". Of those that have yet to achieve profitability, 91 percent expect to be profitable within three years. The most striking finding is that profit margins from China operations have strengthened substantially over the past four years, compared to respective global profit margins. Some 42 percent of responding companies reported that profit margins in China exceeded worldwide margins in 2002, while another 29 percent reported China profit margins comparable to global margins and 29 percent indicated profitability in China as below that of their worldwide performance."

So who said that US companies do not make money, or not making much money?
