What kind of democratic state are we installing when we don't allow the people of Iraq to choose their own leaders or form of government that they want?

Dr. Id... how long was it before the first West German government was elected? Japan?

You just don't have a valid and fair election overnight.

And you don't permit an election that will merely result in a government that abolishes the nation's constitution and establishes an Islamic state where democracy is only for those religious leaders who can claim descendancy from the Prophet Muhammed.

Do you think that Gandhi and Martin Luther King were "timid"? There are ways to deal with problems and conflict which don't involve violence and invasion.

I wish you were right in this case.. In fact, I was having JUST this discussion with an Afghani-American associate of mine when he asserted that until we solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we'll never have democracy in the mid-east.. (I partly concurred with him)..

I asked him why the Palestinians have never attempted to use Ghandi's tactics to shame the Israelis into caving in? It would seem so much more effective when used against a democractic, guilt-ridden society..

But frankly, pacifism, when used against a foe who has regard only for violent Jihad and forced conversion to militant islam, would result in nothing more than a bunch of innocent people being slaughtered.

Hell, militants have no regard for innocent civilians. They see them as being just as much an enemy as they do any armed soldiers.

And if you doubt that, ask Nick Berg, or any of the numerous Iraqis who have been the target of car bombs..
