Our job now is to make fewer mistakes than the enemy.

Good advice...

I really believe Bush's (Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz's) strategy was to take on Iraq, in order to try to revive the effectiveness of the UN (by forcing it to do its job), or reveal its corruption.

I also believe that by invading Iraq, they thought it would force the militants to speed up their timetable for confronting and challenging the Saudi Royal family BEFORE they had achieved any form of critical mass, hopefully forcing the Saudis to act towards disrupting these networks.

And I also believe it was to attempt to bring online an alternative source of oil to the Saudis as a hedge against the possibility of the their being overthrown by the militants (and militant royals) in their midst.

IOW, forcing the enemy to commit mistakes...

Leaving Iraq before the job is finished would be mistake. Not even Kerry recommends thats.

The sad thing is that Kerry has not really discussed any credible means for accomplishing his limited alternatives (such as internationalizing the effort)..

And I'm curious what price we're going to have to pay in order to get our allies to stand by their UN obligations as we try and rebuild Iraq.

I really don't believe we should permit ourselves to submit to either extorsion or bribery, solely in order to get their participation in something they are equally responsible for creating (by permitting the situation to get so far out of hand so they could line their pockets with Iraqi oil for food money).
