I switched my views on expensing after all the offshoring of engineering too. Although I consider myself an engineer and I usually work for options, the trend is that workers are feeling wage pressure from india, which has been perpetuated by the managers of these tech companies, so I no longer care about protecting options which only go to the top.

Try an answer that's realistic at all phases of an economic cycle .. not just near the nadir.
