dawg,

You have to explicitly share whatever resource you want to use over the network. In Windows Explorer, right click on a folder you want to share, then click on the box under Network sharing and security to share the folder. You'll see a little hand supporting the folder in Win Explorer indicating it is shared. Now try to access it from the other computer.

dawg, the same procedure esteban explained applies to printers. If the printer is connected to the wife's pc, on that pc go to printers and right click on the printer icon. Then you can tell it to share that printer.

I don't see where anyone answered that. So, in case you still need the information, try this:

Assuming you are using Win XP
Click Start/Connect to/wireless connections/properties

Then put a check mark in the box that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"

Network Connections
Right Click Local Area Connection
Click Properties
Check Show icon in notification area when connected
