Been thinking that and wondering -- with long rates going up too fast for their liking -- if they might do the unthinkable here -- a surprise .25 pt that they can take back any time they want.

if greenspan is still sane he must make his decision on market sensitivity rather than anything else. Changing market expectations over the last 3 months plus the time till June should be sufficient feedback.

I was not convinced in the rate hike in June to begin with but market proved to be less sensitive than I expected. If relative lack of sensitivity would continue than there is a strong likelihood of a hike in spite of the fact that this is election year.

As far as oil prices there are few measures that are available to Bush......
