I under stood what you said, but you are wrong and you changed the rationale. Your original question was would I torture someone you don't care about (Detainees, who I am presuming to be innocent of crime) to save a bunch more people you do care about.

Way different issue.

"What if you see a criminal shielding himself/herself behind a small crowd of children. Let's also assume that you are the only one that could free the children. But the only way to do this is to shoot and kill the criminal. Would you do it?"

Assuming as you say, there is no other way to free the children (which I question) and that the criminal is an immediate heinous danger to others (which you didn't make clear), I might. You really didn't qualify your scenario very well.

I am sorry but that is exactly what your position amounted to.

Torture, humiliate, kill a few foreigners (presumably innocent of crime) to save 100 Americans. You don't see that?
